National Zoo Tour

Today I went on a guided National Zoo tour with some friends.  I’ve been to the zoo a couple times just to wander but it was great to have someone to show you around and tell you all sorts of interesting stuff.  Did you know pandas can only conceive during one 48 hour period a year?  The zookeepers follow them around testing their urine to detect when the time is right and keep them under surveillance 24 hours a day from an underground bunker.  Ok, it’s not really a bunker.  Anyway, our tour guide taught us lots of interesting animal facts.  She also had this bag she carried around filled with all sorts of wondrous things.  She just kept pulling things out of this little bag.  Gorilla fur, tiger fur, a giant elephant tooth, panda poop, and so much more.  Most of the stuff in the bag came from animals that had died at the zoo.  If you have kids in your group, they apparently have a happier answer to that question.  But since we were all grown ups, they told us the truth about the bag and all about panda sex.  Here are some pictures from the tour.
