Quick update
I’ve been slacking on the updates big time so here’s a quick summary. It’s been a pretty typical last couple weeks.
I’m back to road biking about three times a week and haven’t been running for the last month. Hopefully the ankles are rested up and I’ll start doing some short runs again in May. I’d still like to do some adventure racing later in the summer if I can get back into running shape.
I also played golf the last two weekends, which already brings me even with my 2008 golf record. Last year I played pretty horribly but I’ve managed to do pretty well so far. We’ll see if the luck continues. I need to learn how to chip and then I might actually be able to play without embarrassing myself.
It’s been over 90 degrees in DC for the last four days and I’m already rocking a nice farmers tan. Back when I used to race bikes, I’d get such a sweet farmers tan that it would last through the following winter. Maybe that should be my goal this year.
Lots of fun trips coming up! This weekend I’m heading up to NYC for the Five Boro Bike Tour with a group of friends, 42 miles around the city with 30,000 people. Should be a fun time. Next weekend is Richmond to hang out with the parents and do a little reunion gathering with a bunch of friends from the Richmond days who I rarely see. The weekend after that is a multi-stop wine tour trip that some friends have put together in northern VA. Zero plans for Memorial day weekend thus far. Want to hang out? The weekend after that is camping on the Eastern Shore. Then another unplanned weekend. Then Gypsy Kings at Wolf Trap followed by a week in Seattle. So, if you’re stalking me, you should be all set for a while…
That’s all for now. I’ll try to post more than once a month and take some pictures one of these days.
Ah oh, no wheels!
As I pulled into my complex’s parking lot this afternoon, I noticed a giant tow truck idling and assumed an illegal parker was being towed. Upon closer inspection, it turns out this guy had the wheels stolen right off his Chevy Tahoe last night. Came out and found it up on stone blocks from our landscaping. Damn! I live in a pretty nice neighborhood but very near major highways and the interstate. We seem to get some occasional car break-ins that I figured were due to get-away convenience. I hope my wheels stay put!
Nice evening for a bike ride – and rocking down by the river
I went out for a nice road bike ride this evening after work. As is usually the case, it included a stint on the Mt. Vernon trail, which follows along the Potomac River. About a mile south of Rosslyn, I started to hear some music. Off on the side of the trail was a band performing while a guy shot video of them. I guess it was some local band’s attempt at a low budget music video. Keep tuned to MTV and watch for it!
Do they play music on there any more??
Cherry Blossom Festival
Today, I biked into DC to meet up with Constance and her family to check out the cherry blossoms and she really does have a boyfriend. He’s real and I met him. It was beautiful out but very windy and I actually got a little sunburnt. More pictures here…
Off the hook for Jury Duty
I was picked for jury duty in Arlington county a couple weeks ago and, after an orientation session, have had the potential of being called in to serve on a jury over the last two weeks. I did get notified to show up yesterday but they called us off in the morning. Today’s the last day so I’m off the hook. Believe it or not, they ended up not needing any jurors the entire two week span. I think it would have been an interesting experience so I’m kind of disappointed.
