Screw common sense, it’s time to protest!
While I understand that this video was shot and edited by liberal leaning persons and I’m sure not everyone out on the National Mall protesting on September 12th was a raving idiot, I am truly saddened to witness, on a daily basis, the self-perpetuating, thoroughly unproductive situation we’re in now, thanks to shortsighted right-wing politics and an opportunistic media. It’s quite apparent that the interviewees in this video do not normally involve themselves in public affairs, politics, business, or healthcare (be it preventative, emergency, or in some cases…basic hygiene). Let them go home and let them in on the little secret that the world is not coming to an end. Would it be so hard to stop riling up the masses and attempt to educate the country on the issues at hand? I suppose it’s just too damn easy to use them to move forward an agenda instead? I personally try not to blindly support or oppose anything I don’t understand. I’ve always found that to be a safe bet. I’ve largely stopped watching and reading the news because it makes me sad. There’s so much we could be doing, so many ways we could be improving ourselves as a country. I hate to think we’re incapable of making progress.
Slacking and Sailing
Well, I’ve been seriously falling down the the blog updates. I’ve been keeping busy but haven’t been on any major adventures with my camera in tow, and that’s when I’m usually most inspired to post.
I went tubing near Harpers Ferry, WV a couple weekends ago but didn’t bring a camera. Other friends took tons of pics but I’ll spare you from a close-up of my blazing farmer’s tan. Other than that, I’ve been doing a lot of biking and I’ve been running again for the last 3-4 weeks with very little ankle pain, so that’s exciting. I’ve also been having a LOT of fun hanging out around town. My parents came up to visit two weeks ago and my bother was just here this week visiting from Seattle.
Yesterday Jared and I went sailing, leaving from Belle Haven Marina. I was unaware that we weren’t supposed to go past the Woodrow Wilson bridge, so our plan to sail up to the Alexandria waterfront caused a little drama. We had just made it when the marina staff caught up to us in a small powerboat and towed us back to the other side of the bridge before releasing us back into the wild. Kind of disappointing that you can’t go any further. I may have to rent from a different place next time so I can explore a different area.
Here are a few pics from sailing yesterday.
